Drug Abuse and Addiction Unit
The mission of the
public health officer in the area of drug
abuse and addiction is mainly to promote the access to adequate
therapies for addicted people and control the use of
narcotics for therapeutic purpose
Objectives of the therapies
- ameliorate the behaviour of the patients regarding
alimentation and hygiene
- thwart the feeling of abandon and "deresponsibilization"
- prevent infectious diseases
-
help the patient in getting away from the drug underworld,
reduce or eliminate criminal activities, prostitution
- improve the social and professional reinsertion
The Public Health officer is responsible for
- the delivering of the authorisations for ambulatory opioids
maintenance treatments. These treatments are mainly prescribed by general practitioners
- the treatment assessment
- the continuous training of medical doctors in the field of
addictions
